Ramallah: The Capital Market Authority, in collaboration with the Palestine Stock Exchange, recently concluded their participation in the World Investor Week 2024, held early this October. The event, themed “Technology, Digital Finance, Crypto Assets and Sustainable Finance,” is part of an annual initiative by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE), engaging securities and exchange authorities from over 120 countries.
According to Maan News Agency, this year’s participation by the Capital Market Authority and the Palestine Stock Exchange was particularly meaningful given the backdrop of Israeli aggression over the past year. Activities were primarily focused on awareness meetings held at An-Najah National University, Al-Istiqlal University, and Palestine Technical University – Khadouri, along with active engagements on various social media platforms. These sessions covered critical topics such as sustainability, tech and digital finance in
novations, and the handling of crypto assets.
Mr. Murad Jadba, Director General of the General Department of Securities at the Capital Market Authority, emphasized the Authority’s commitment to enhancing financial awareness to foster a generation adept at handling non-banking financial policies and services in Palestine. He highlighted the Authority’s pride in being a member of the IOSCO, which annually focuses on significant investment awareness and securities sector issues. He also noted the discussions at the university meetings, which included the launch of an innovation platform and the adoption of financial technology applications, regulation of forex activities, and the importance of caution in dealing with virtual assets.
Mr. Nihad Kamal, Director General of the Palestine Stock Exchange, reiterated the Stock Exchange’s ongoing efforts to build cooperation bridges with local and international bodies to promote investment awareness and spread financial knowledge. He expressed the importance of the Sto
ck Exchange’s role in the “Ring the Bell” event for financial awareness, which coincides with the IOSCO’s World Investor Week. Kamal also underscored the focus on sustainability during the meetings with students, highlighting the Palestinian security sector’s endeavors to enhance performance in environmental, social, and corporate governance to encourage sustainable investments for future generations.
IOSCO, as the leading professional body overseeing financial markets, sets international and technical standards for financial market supervisory bodies, with Palestine having been a full member since 2014 through the Capital Market Authority.
