Palestinian Foreign Ministry Commends UNESCO’s Decision on Gaza

GAZA CITY: The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates expressed approval of a recent decision by UNESCO's Executive Board concerning the Gaza Strip. The decision was made during the board's 220th session and is the third of its kind, following prior resolutions addressing occupied Palestine and cultural and educational institutions. According to Kuwait News Agency, the decision, titled "The Impact and Consequences of the Current Situation in the Gaza Strip Regarding All Aspects of UNESCO's Work," underscores the importance of safeguarding the rights of Palestinians within UNESCO's scope of work. This emphasis comes in the context of ongoing challenges faced by Palestinians since the Nakba in 1948, with particular focus on the situation in Gaza. The Ministry highlighted that the decision plays a vital role by establishing a special fund for reconstruction and calling for prompt action to assess cultural and historical damage threatened by Israeli activities. The Ministry conveyed gratitude t o the UNESCO member states that have contributed financially to this reconstruction effort. The Ministry further urged the international community to actively engage in implementing UNESCO's resolutions to protect the cultural and historical heritage of Palestinian territories. This call to action is aimed at ensuring the preservation of Palestinian history and culture amidst ongoing challenges.
