Palestinian PM welcomes Egypt’s efforts to broker ceasefire

Palestinian Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh welcomed Saturday Egypt's and others sisterly and friendly countries for their successful efforts to broker a ceasefire deal to stop the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

In a press statement, Shtayyeh said the crimes of the Israeli occupation would not discourage the Palestinian people from continuing their legitimate struggle to obtain their legitimate rights of self-determination and establishing their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital and guaranteeing the refugees' right to return.

The Palestinian premier called on the United Nations and all international human rights organizations to hold accountable the perpetrators of the crimes against Palestinian people.

He stressed the need to provide protection for the Palestinians from the attacks of the Israeli occupation forces and extremist settlers.

The Egypt-mediate ceasefire between the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement and Israel entered into force Saturday evening.

The deal calls for bringing to a halt the targeting of civilians and the demolition of homes.

The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip continued for five consecutive days, resulting in the death of 33 Palestinians, including six children and three women, and the injury of more than 150 others.
