Beirut: House Speaker Nabih Berri inaugurated a legislative session on Thursday, during which urgency status was removed from several proposed expedited laws. These included the amendment to Law No. 131/2019 concerning the protection of the Beirut Pine Forest, the amendment to Law No. 42/86 that prohibits the sale of Lebanon's gold reserves without parliamentary approval, and the proposal by MP Fouad Makhzoumi to allocate the Costa Brava landfill site for a solar power station intended to supply Beirut Airport and the capital with electricity.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, urgency was also removed from the proposal to restore powers to the President and Council of the Lebanese University. Parliament has now commenced reviewing the expedited draft law to amend Law No. 71 (27/10/2016), which criminalizes celebratory gunfire.
