Beirut: Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam presided over a meeting at the Grand Serail to discuss the country's electricity sector. The meeting was attended by Minister of Energy and Water and Energy Joseph Saddi, Minister of Finance Yassin Jaber, and Minister of Economy and Trade Amer Bisat.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, representatives from the International Finance Corporation and the World Bank participated in the meeting remotely. The progress achieved in the energy sector reform, led by the Ministry of Energy and Water and Electricit© du Liban (EDL), was reviewed during the discussions.
The meeting also focused on appropriate guarantee mechanisms to attract private sector financing. The aim is to bring in a Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) to secure a reliable source of gas for the Deir Ammar power plant. Additionally, there is a plan to upgrade the existing Deir Ammar plant, extending its operational lifespan, and to design, finance, operate, and maintain a new power plant in Deir Ammar with a capacity of 825 MW.
