Beirut: Prime Minister, Dr. Nawaf Salam, held a meeting with the UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women, Dr. Sima Bahous, and her delegation. The focus of the discussion was on promoting women's leadership and participation in various sectors.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Dr. Sima Bahous expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister's ongoing support to enhance women's roles at ministerial, political, economic, and social levels. The meeting highlighted the importance of advancing gender-sensitive policies and combating violence against women, including digital violence intended to silence women in public life.
Prime Minister Salam commended the efforts of UN Women in empowering women across Lebanon. He emphasized the significance of programs that foster women's participation in recovery and reconstruction efforts, particularly in the South, ensuring their active involvement in all levels.
In a separate engagement, Premier Salam, alongside Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Tarek Mitri, welcomed a delegation of regional directors from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, and the World Food Programme. The directors reiterated their commitment to supporting Lebanon's national priorities and finding sustainable solutions to the Syrian refugee crisis, focusing on education, health, and protection.
Premier Salam stressed the importance of synergy among international agencies, aligning their initiatives with Lebanon's governmental plans and priorities, and maintaining informed and coordinated efforts for effective collaboration.
