Powerful Earthquake in Southern Turkey Injures 187, Causes Building Collapses

MALATYA: A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck the southern region of Malatya in Turkey, resulting in 187 injuries and partial collapse of three buildings, confirmed Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya. According to Kuwait News Agency, Minister Yerlikaya addressed the media at a hastily arranged news conference in Malatya, where he detailed the impact of the recent seismic event. The quake, which also affected parts of Syria including Hasakah, Deir al-Zor, and Aleppo provinces, primarily caused damage in Malatya province. Out of the injured, 43 individuals are still under medical supervision, whereas the majority have been discharged after receiving necessary treatment. The minister's report highlighted the swift response to the emergency, with rescue operations initiated promptly to address the casualties and structural damages. The local authorities are assessing the stability of the affected structures and coordinating continued relief efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents.
