President Abbas Calls for International Action Against Israeli Occupation at Arab-Islamic Summit.

Riyadh: On the sidelines of the Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas strongly condemned Israel's ongoing actions against the Palestinian people, urging Arab and Islamic nations to demonstrate solidarity and cooperation in response to what he described as aggression and genocide. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Abbas emphasized the need for the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2735, which seeks to halt aggression, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, and mandate the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. He also rejected any plans to separate Gaza from the West Bank and called for Arab and Islamic countries to advocate for the suspension of Israel's UN membership unless it complies with international law and ends its actions against Palestinians. In his address, President Abbas urged global nations to reassess their relations with Israel and avoid normalizing ties with a state that he claims violates international law, commits genocide, and targets UNRWA. He referenced a General Assembly resolution that encourages countries to impose sanctions on Israel. Furthermore, he called on Arab and Islamic countries to demand the end of occupation and settlement activities within one year, in line with the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion. President Abbas appealed to summit leaders to protect Jerusalem, support its residents, and safeguard the historical and legal status of Al-Aqsa Mosque and other religious sites. He advocated for backing the international coalition to achieve full UN membership for Palestine, implementing the Arab Peace Initiative, and garnering international support to bolster Palestinian national unity. He also stressed the importance of pressuring the Israeli government to release funds, establish a financial safety net, and support UNRWA's work in Palestine. President Abbas mentioned ongoing efforts to set up mechanisms for the Palestinian government to manage the Gaza Strip under the ju risdiction of the State of Palestine and the Palestine Liberation Organization. Lastly, President Abbas expressed gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their efforts in supporting the Palestinian state and for hosting the summit in Saudi Arabia. He also thanked the leaders of other Arab and Islamic countries for their continued support.
