Baabda: President Joseph Aoun held multiple meetings with key figures at the Baabda Presidential Palace on Wednesday, addressing diplomatic, parliamentary, and security issues.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Aoun hosted Catholicos Aram I Keshishian of the Armenian Orthodox Church, along with Bishops Shahi Panossian and Daghat Ashakian. Their discussions focused on the nation's general developments and concerns pertinent to the Armenian Orthodox community in Lebanon. Catholicos Aram I conveyed solidarity with President Aoun, supporting his efforts to maintain national unity and sovereignty. He stressed the importance of avoiding divisive statements and instead focusing on collective interests.
Catholicos Aram I condemned the Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon, describing them as violations of international law, and urged the international community to respond. He also highlighted the need for a sustainable approach to the displacement issue, praising state efforts and expressing hope for the displaced to return to their homes soon.
In another meeting, President Aoun conferred with Qatari Ambassador Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. They discussed local and regional developments and the bilateral relations between Lebanon and Qatar. Aoun expressed Lebanon's condemnation of recent attacks on Qatar and hoped for the restoration of stability in the region.
President Aoun also met with MP Ihab Matar to discuss recent developments. MP Matar expressed his full support for President Aoun's negotiation initiative and his diplomatic efforts to uphold Lebanon's sovereignty. He reiterated his backing for the government's stance on state monopoly over arms.
Additionally, Aoun was briefed by Major General Edgar Lawandos, Director General of State Security, on the Directorate's efforts, particularly in combating corruption.
