Baabda: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, held a series of significant meetings at Baabda Palace, including engagements with the newly elected council of the World Lebanese Cultural Union and Finance Minister Yassin Jaber. During his discussions with the Union, President Aoun emphasized the importance of negotiation in establishing security and stability, particularly in the South, clarifying that negotiation does not equate to surrender.
According to National news agency - Lebanon, the meeting commenced with remarks from the former president of the World Lebanese Cultural Union, Abbas Fawaz, who highlighted the Union's commitment to the Lebanese state and its institutions. He expressed the diaspora's support for the President and the rebuilding of a state characterized by justice, equity, and strength.
The President was updated on the recent conference held by the Union, where Ibrahim Constantine was elected as the new global president with a substantial majority. Dr. Constantine expressed gratitude to President Aoun for his belief in the Lebanese diaspora's role in supporting the homeland. He reiterated the Union's non-political stance and its dedication to unity and support for Lebanon and its citizens.
In another meeting, President Aoun and Finance Minister Yassin Jaber discussed Lebanon's financial situation and ongoing projects within the finance ministry. They also talked about the progress of the draft law concerning the 'financial gap,' which is expected to be reviewed by the Council of Ministers soon.
