President Joseph Aoun Reaffirms Commitment to Timely Elections and Expatriate Participation

Beirut: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, emphasized his commitment to ensuring that Lebanese expatriates have the opportunity to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections. He assured members of parliament that the elections will proceed on schedule and that expatriates will be included in the political process.

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, President Aoun reiterated his stance to the Lebanese community in New York, highlighting the importance of the diaspora’s role in Lebanon’s political decision-making through voting. He underscored the necessity of adhering to two key principles: conducting the elections as planned without any delays and guaranteeing expatriate involvement.

The President’s statements were made during a meeting with a parliamentary delegation that represents MPs who have endorsed the expatriate voting bill. The discussion focused on the rights of Lebanese expatriates to vote and the ongoing debate surrounding the expatriate voting bill. The delegation, comprising MPs Ghassan Hasbani, Ashraf Rifi, Melhem Riachi, Michel Moawad, Elias Hankash, George Okais, Michel Douaihy, Waddah Al-Sadek, and Mark Daou, provided the President with insights into their proposal and expressed their perspectives on the matter.
