Beirut: Grand Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdel Latif Derian, on Tuesday received Qatari Ambassador to Lebanon, Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, at Dar Al-Fatwa, where the envoy presented a $1.085 million contribution for the construction of the Imam Shafi’i Mosque and its annexes in Beirut’s Sanayeh district.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, this first installment is provided by Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and follows a previous $3 million donation. Ambassador Al Thani reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to supporting Lebanon, while Mufti Derian expressed gratitude, emphasizing the mosque’s role as a center for worship and Islamic education.
The funds were handed over to Director-General of Islamic Endowments Sheikh Mohammad Anis Al-Arwadi for immediate implementation.
