Rabat: Foreign Minister, Youssef Raggi, on Wednesday said Lebanon, under the leadership of President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, had taken the "courageous decision" to begin direct negotiations with Israel aimed at securing a full and permanent ceasefire and the liberation of all Lebanese territory.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, speaking at the second ministerial conference on peacekeeping in the Francophone world in Rabat, Raggi emphasized that the talks are directed towards ensuring full Lebanese sovereignty and establishing "a state free from foreign occupation and any illegal armed organization."
Raggi also highlighted the importance of reviving UN peacekeeping operations despite numerous international challenges, such as Security Council paralysis, financing difficulties, and hybrid warfare. He acknowledged the efforts of UNIFIL forces in south Lebanon and outlined priorities that include enhancing regional peacekeeping capacities, creating realistic mandates, and increasing investment in conflict prevention.
