Russian, Egyptian leaders aspire for stronger ties

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday the relationship between his country and Egypt has a distinguished nature thanks to the numerous joint projects, notably in energy.

During his meeting with Egyptian President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi in San Petersburg, Putin said that since both countries established their diplomatic relations, 80 years ago, the relations in all areas have got a special nature.

The meeting took place on the eve of the Second Summit Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, the Russian Presidency reported on its website. Both Russia and Egypt have a lot of joint gigantic projects such as the nuclear power station which is being built as planned, Putin said. The bilateral trade volume grew by 28.8 percent last year to represent a third of Russia trade exchanges with Africa, Putin added.

On his part, President Al-Sisi said Egypt has a positive approach to the initiatives raised by Russia to promote cooperation with Africa.

He voice hope tomorrow summit would have great impacts on the cooperation between Russia and Africa.

He praised the nuclear power station and the Russian industrial zone being built in Egypt.
