The two-member crew of a Russian fighter jet died when their Sukhoi Su-30 crashed during a training mission in Chernyakhovsky district in the westernmost Kaliningrad region, on Saturday.
The deadly accident resulted from a technical malfunction, Russian news agency TASS reported, citing a statement from the Defense Ministry.
The accident took place in a deserted area of the Russian exclave on the Baltic Sea. A loud bang in the air was heard and the crew had apparently no time to eject, according to the military statement.
Since the twin-engine, multi-role fighter aircraft joined the Russian Air Force in 2012, six aircraft have crashed in Russia, including two last month, in addition to 18 aircraft in other countries which acquired this type of fighter jets.
