Beirut: Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, met today with MP Farid Al-Boustani, head of Parliament's Economy Committee, to discuss financial and economic developments. Al-Boustani emphasized the necessity of a 'realistic plan that guarantees depositors' rights,' highlighting the Prime Minister's agreement that any haircut 'would harm the economy.' He mentioned that both his own proposal, submitted last February, and the government's upcoming recovery plan will be examined by Parliament to ensure 'constructive dialogue centered on safeguarding depositors and restoring the banking sector.'
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Salam later received former minister and MP Michel Pharaon, accompanied by Dr. Antoine Messarra. They invited him to a consultative meeting on November 28 at the Robert Mouawad Museum to prepare for the second volume of 'Lebanon's Official Neutrality within the Arab League Framework.' Pharaon explained that the initiative, launched in 2023 in partnership with Austria, aims to promote Lebanon's neutrality 'in application, culture, and education,' and to reinforce state sovereignty, particularly regarding exclusive arms possession and financial reforms.
The Prime Minister also engaged with a delegation from the Beirut Arab University, headed by Dr. Ammar Houri and President Prof. Wael Nabil Abdel Salam. They invited him to the university's 66th anniversary celebration on November 18 in Debbieh. These discussions also encompassed educational, cultural, and national matters.
