Beirut: Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, on Wednesday received UN High Commissioner for Refugees Barham Salih, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri and Foreign Minister Youssef Raji. Following the meeting, Salih expressed full support for Lebanon, citing extensive destruction, civilian casualties, and large-scale displacement.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Salih reported that more than one million Lebanese, around one-fifth of the population, have been displaced. He described the humanitarian impact as severe and a challenge for both Lebanon and the international community. Salih stressed the need to protect civilians and infrastructure and called for urgent international assistance. He noted UN appeals for hundreds of millions of dollars in aid and pledged to mobilize further support.
