Beirut: The road stretching from the Emigrant Statue to the George Haddad intersection in Beirut was officially named "Victims of August 4th Street" during a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. The event was held at the behest of families affected by the catastrophic port explosion, which resulted in numerous casualties and widespread devastation.
According to National news Agency - Lebanon, Prime Minister Salam addressed the families of victims, martyrs, and the wounded, affirming his commitment to securing justice. He emphasized that no obstacles would deter the pursuit of truth and justice and expressed hope that these efforts would not face delays, as truth is integral to achieving justice.
Salam further assured that the Lebanese government would fully support the judicial process to uncover the truth behind the port explosion. He promised that all necessary resources would be made available to meet the judiciary's requirements.
Addressing concerns about potential political hurdles, particularly regarding the possibility of ministers from the Shiite duo withdrawing from a forthcoming session, Salam stated he had no concerns. He clarified that the issues at hand were not external demands but rather part of Lebanon's ministerial agenda and aligned with the Taif Agreement's principles, which advocate for the Lebanese state to assert its authority across its territory using its forces.
Salam concluded by expressing optimism that an executive mechanism would soon be implemented to address these national issues, starting with the upcoming session on Tuesday.
