Beirut: Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Monday met a delegation from the municipality of Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh, headed by Mayor Abd Ezzeddine, to review the town's needs under the government's recovery and return plan. The meeting, attended by the heads of the Council for Development and Reconstruction and the Council for the South, focused on rebuilding infrastructure, clearing war damage and restoring essential services to facilitate the safe return of residents.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Salam described the reconstruction of war-affected southern towns as a national priority, pledging continued government support for municipalities throughout the recovery process. Following the meeting, the mayor said Salam had committed to backing infrastructure and development projects, including electricity, water, and reconstruction, to accelerate residents' return.
Mayor Ezzeddine also praised the Lebanese Army's role in supporting recovery efforts, saying it had coordinated daily with local authorities, helped restore water supplies, and deployed engineering equipment to reopen roads. He described the army as the main guarantor of the safe return of residents to the town.
