Beirut: Minister of Culture, Dr. Ghassan Salameh, engaged in discussions with MP Ashraf Baydoun at his office in the National Library in Sanayeh. The meeting was aimed at addressing the draft law on cultural heritage protection.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the discussion was attended by Buthaina Baydoun, Ali Zaarour, Engineer Sarkis Khoury, the Director General of Antiquities, and Jumana Nakhleh, the Directorate's Chief of Staff. The central focus of the meeting was the draft law concerning the prosecution of cultural heritage offenses, a significant step following Lebanon's accession to the Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property.
MP Baydoun expressed the importance of the meeting, highlighting the valuable insights shared by Minister Salameh and his team. He noted that these contributions have enhanced the draft proposal, which aims to establish a cultural prosecutor's office and a cultural judicial police force. This initiative is designed to safeguard both registered and unregistered cultural properties within Lebanon and internationally.
