London: A delegation from the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) recently engaged with senior insurance specialists at Marsh McLennan in London to discuss advancements and future goals in the insurance sector. The visit highlighted SEWA's efforts to bolster its insurance services in response to rising energy demands in Sharjah. According to Emirates News Agency, the delegation comprised Majid Hussein Al Mutawa, Dr. Hassan Ahmed Hassan Abdullah Al Zarouni, and Hadef Sultan Mohammed Al Saleh Al Tunaiji, who represented various departments within SEWA. They met with Marsh McLennan's International Energy and Utilities Insurance Team to explore global insurance industry updates and the services offered by the company. Key discussions revolved around enhancing cooperation with insurance providers to offer optimal services for critical infrastructure, aligning with SEWA's aim to expand energy production capacity. The visit underscored Sharjah's position as a regional energy leader and its dedicati on to fostering long-term partnerships. The delegation further reinforced ties with major insurance entities such as STARR, Allianz, Score, and QBE. Their itinerary included a visit to Lloyd's of London, the preeminent insurance market, to identify additional collaboration prospects. Among the proposed initiatives was the implementation of an owner-controlled construction insurance programme. This programme would cover all contractual work annually, offering benefits like cost management, consistent coverage, insurance committee oversight, and claims control. Additionally, the need for a cyber risk assessment and insurance programme was emphasized, reflecting the growing cyber threat landscape, particularly in the Middle East. SEWA plans to collaborate with Marsh McLennan and Al Buhaira National Insurance to develop its risk and insurance framework, ensuring adherence to international standards and maintaining its leadership in the energy and utilities sector.
