UN Warns of Dire Humanitarian Crisis in Northern Gaza as Supplies Cut Off

GAZA: The United Nations on Sunday highlighted a severe humanitarian crisis unfolding in northern Gaza, where over 400,000 residents are struggling with a lack of essential supplies and are being urged to relocate southwards due to intensified military activities and blockades.

According to Jordan News Agency, UN Humanitarian Coordinator Muhannad Hadi reported that since early October, Israeli authorities have significantly restricted the flow of supplies into northern areas of the Gaza Strip. The closures of Erez and Western crossings have halted the transfer of essential goods from the south. Furthermore, displacement orders issued on October 7, 9, and 12 have exacerbated the situation, compelling thousands to flee their homes.

The region has seen a sharp increase in hostilities, leading to heightened civilian suffering and casualties. Recent weeks have witnessed the displacement of over 50,000 individuals from the Jabalia area alone, now effectively cut off. Many residents are trapped in their homes, ami
dst ongoing shelling and combat, severely limiting their mobility and access to safety.

The crisis has also led to the shutdown of key facilities including medical centers, bakeries, and shelters, critically hampering the availability of healthcare, food security, and protection services. Hospitals in the area are under immense pressure, dealing with a surge in casualties while facing shortages in medical supplies and staff.

The UN has made urgent appeals to protect civilians and ensure the continuity of routes for crucial supplies. It emphasized the necessity of providing safe and humane options for those affected, including adequate shelter, food, medical care, and water. The organization also stressed the importance of allowing civilians the option to return to their homes safely, and called on all parties involved to adhere strictly to international humanitarian law to prevent further humanitarian disasters.
