Sudan’s Army Secures Strategic Areas in South Kordofan Amid Clashes

Khartoum: The Sudanese army has successfully seized several strategic locations west of Abbasiya Tagali in South Kordofan following intense clashes with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its ally, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N). Witnesses reported these developments after the army managed to gain control over Tabsa, al-Damra, Gardoud Jama, and al-Mureib, effectively halting the RSF and its allies' attacks on the city.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Nuba Mountains community platform, a local non-governmental organization, confirmed the army's capture of these key areas from the RSF. Videos shared by army personnel depicted troops asserting their control over Tabsa and al-Damra amidst civilian celebrations. Despite these developments, there has been no official comment from the army, the RSF, or SPLM-North regarding the recent events.

The Kordofan states, comprising North, West, and South, have been embroiled in fierce battles between the army and the RSF for weeks, leading to a significant displacement crisis. Tens of thousands of residents have been forced to flee due to the ongoing conflict. Of Sudan's 18 states, the RSF maintains control over all five states of the Darfur region in the west, except for some northern areas of North Darfur that remain under the army's control. Conversely, the army holds most areas of the remaining 13 states, including the capital, Khartoum.

The conflict, which erupted in April 2023, has resulted in a devastating humanitarian crisis, with at least 40,000 people killed and 12 million displaced, as reported by the World Health Organization.
