Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Oksana Markarova, the former ambassador to the United States, as his new adviser on reconstruction and investment. A decree confirming Markarova's appointment was published on Ukraine's Presidential Office website.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy expressed the importance of this appointment on the US social media platform X, stating that the long-term objective for Ukraine is to rebuild after the ongoing conflict and restore normal economic development. He emphasized that the task of rebuilding is not only for the government but also for all Ukrainian institutions and businesses. Zelenskyy believes that everyone who can aid Ukraine in this effort should contribute.
Zelenskyy expressed satisfaction that Markarova will continue to be part of the state's team, with her new responsibilities focusing on improving the business climate, enhancing financial resilience, attracting investment, and planning reconstruction with strategic partners. Markarova, in her statement on X, thanked President Zelenskyy for his trust and highlighted the importance of focusing on the future while defending the country. She expressed her honor to work with international allies to plan rebuilding, establish partnerships, and attract investments necessary for achieving peace.
Markarova served as the Ukrainian ambassador to the US beginning in February 2021. She was succeeded by Olha Stefanishyna, who was appointed by Zelenskyy as the new ambassador to the US on August 27.
