‘The Economy’ gives gold traders a deadline to stamp the lira before the end of next month

On Monday, the Ministry of National Economy called on gold jewelery dealers to stamp gold lira with the hallmark approved by the Precious Metals Directorate. Under the instructions of the Minister of National Economy, Khaled Al-Asili, precious metals dealers are obligated not to offer, sell, or trade gold liras without duly stamping them, unless it is proven that the liras are original coins. The Ministry, in a statement, set the deadline for the end of next October for merchants to stamp the lira with the Directorate, so that it bears the real caliber of the jewelry and the letter (Z), under penalty of legal responsibility. Liras are a type of gold jewelry and products that are in great demand in the Palestinian market. They are characterized by maintaining value and do not lose much of their value when resold. The Ministry stated in its statement that in light of the technological and technical development in the precious metals sector, the risks of counterfeiting and manufacturing lira increases, som etimes reaching the point of complete identicalness with the original lira. The Ministry stressed the importance of the Minister's instructions in protecting the local product, and developing and organizing the precious metals sector in Palestine, to ensure its sustainability and protection. She called on citizens when purchasing gold to obtain a detailed invoice, and to report any complaint through the direct number (129) or to review the precious metals directorates in the governorates, in addition to ensuring that the gold jewelry is stamped upon purchase, which bears the Palestinian 'Dome of the Rock' stamp. The Precious Metals Directorate stamps about 10 tons of gold jewelry annually, while about 577 factories, workshops, and shops work in manufacturing and selling precious metals, employing 3,000 manufacturers and merchants, and are subject to the supervision and inspection teams of the Precious Metals Directorate Source: Maan News Agency
