President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid affirmed the depth of the solid and historical relations between Iraq and Italy, expressing his hope for a greater role for Italian companies in Iraq.
A presidential statement said that the President of the Republic visited the Italian House of Representatives today and met there, at Montectorio Palace, in Rome, Parliament Speaker Lorenzo Fontana.
During the meeting, which was attended by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani, and the Minister of Immigration and Displaced, Evan Faeq Jabro, in addition to a number of advisors and officials, the President stressed the depth of the solid and historical relations between Iraq and Italy, and work to strengthen them. He thanked the Speaker of Parliament for the security and cultural support for Iraq, indicating that Iraq has overcome the security crisis and is living in a state of stability.
According to the statement, the President spoke about the democratic experience in Iraq, which reflected the Iraqis' adherence to their choices and their aspiration to exercise their right through legislative and local elections, the most recent of which was the recent elections that resulted in a government that represents Iraqis with all their affiliations and components, as it developed an ambitious program to meet their demands in consolidating security and stability, improving the reality of services and starting vital projects from by encouraging investment opportunities, stressing that after approving the budget, the focus for the government will be towards starting strategic and vital projects, activating and encouraging investment opportunities, as well as developing services and rehabilitating infrastructure.
The President expressed his hope for a greater role for Italian companies in Iraq and their contribution in the areas of energy, improvement of services, water, environment and infrastructure.
For his part, Fontana welcomed the visit of the President of the Republic, which he described as fruitful, stressing his country's keenness to raise the level of bilateral relations and expand the horizons of cooperation in a way that achieves the supreme interests of the two friendly countries and peoples.
The President toured the Montecitorio Palace, which is the seat of the Italian Parliament, and listened to a detailed explanation from the supervisors of the building and the valuable historical landmarks it contains, as it is considered one of the important landmarks in the capital, Rome.
