U.S. Ambassador Voices Support for Rahi, Backs Potential Aoun-Netanyahu Meeting

Beirut: U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon, Michel Issa, on Monday expressed regret over campaigns targeting Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, reaffirming commitment to coexistence after meeting him. Issa emphasized the importance of dialogue and understanding among Lebanon's diverse communities.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, Issa also discussed the possibility of a meeting between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with U.S. President Donald Trump potentially attending. He stated that such a meeting would not be viewed as a loss or concession for Lebanon. Instead, it would serve as an opportunity for President Aoun to present Lebanon's demands directly to the U.S. leadership. Issa underscored that Washington's primary goal is to preserve Lebanon's independence, dignity, and economic stability.

The ambassador's comments reflect ongoing diplomatic efforts to support Lebanon amidst regional tensions. The potential high-level meeting is seen as a move to strengthen Lebanon's position on the international stage while addressing critical national interests.
