Beirut: The U.S. Embassy in Lebanon has issued an urgent advisory for U.S. citizens currently in the country, urging them to depart immediately while commercial travel options remain available. The advisory specifically emphasizes that U.S. citizens should avoid traveling to Lebanon entirely.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the U.S. Embassy strongly advises American citizens situated in Southern Lebanon, near the Syrian border, within refugee settlements, and in Beirut's Dahiyeh neighborhood to leave these areas without delay. The embassy notes that while the commercial airport is still operational and flights are currently available, there is a possibility of cancellations, urging travelers to check for flight options at Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport.
The U.S. Department of State, as of February 23, 2026, has ordered the departure of family members and non-emergency government personnel from Lebanon, citing a volatile and unpredictable security situation. U.S. citizens are reminded to exercise caution, stay informed of regional developments, and develop contingency plans that do not rely on U.S. government assistance for evacuation.
Furthermore, all consular services in Lebanon, both routine and emergency, have been suspended. The U.S. government has indicated its inability to provide emergency services to its citizens in Lebanon at this time. U.S. citizens are advised to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive alerts and assist with locating them during emergencies.
