UAE Delegation Advocates for Balanced Resolution on Palestine at IPU Assembly in Geneva

Geneva: A United Arab Emirates parliamentary delegation, led by Ahmed Mir Hashim Khoori of the Federal National Council, participated in the discussions at the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, focusing on a crucial resolution regarding the Palestine-Israel two-state solution. According to Emirates News Agency, Khoori, representing the UAE, spoke at the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security meeting, emphasizing the necessity for the resolution to be neutral and consensual to gain widespread acceptance among the IPU member parliaments. The UAE delegation highlighted the significance of reforming the IPU's frameworks to better support its primary aim of fostering peace and security through inter-parliamentary dialogue and diplomacy. During the session, the UAE Parliamentary Division called attention to the limited influence of some parliaments and the ineffective enforcement of international decisions. They urged that the new resolution should underline the pivotal role of parli aments in ensuring the implementation of governmental decisions and advancing global peace initiatives. Furthermore, the delegation stressed the importance of incorporating ongoing regional political developments into the resolution, along with established principles concerning the Palestinian cause. They advocated for continuous regional and international efforts to rejuvenate the peace process in the Middle East, aiming for a sustainable and fair solution.
