UAE Reaffirms Commitment to Palestinian Cause at Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference

GENEVA: Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the UAE's Federal National Council, emphasized the UAE's ongoing commitment to the Palestinian cause and broader Arab issues during his participation in the 37th Extraordinary Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union. The conference was part of the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, Switzerland. According to Emirates News Agency, Ghobash stated that the UAE has consistently prioritized Arab issues, especially the Palestinian cause, in its foreign policy since its inception by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He reiterated the UAE's support for the Palestinian people's right to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders. This stance aligns with the UAE's longstanding policy of advocating for Arab rights in international forums. The conference, chaired by Ibrahim Boughali, President of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union and the National People's Assembly of Algeria, saw participation f rom various Arab parliamentary leaders and delegation members. Ghobash highlighted the UAE's proactive role in providing relief and medical aid in conflict zones such as Gaza and Lebanon, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and other UAE leaders. He noted that the UAE contributed over 40 percent of the total global aid to these regions over the past year.
