Dubai: At the 2024 Annual Meeting of Global Future Councils, the United Arab Emirates was spotlighted for its agility in governance, focusing on artificial intelligence, regulation, and education, positioning itself as a global leader in adapting to international changes. During a panel titled "UAE: The Next Decade," experts discussed the country's strategic use of technology and education reform to navigate global disruptions effectively. According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting, held from October 15th to 17th, drew over 500 participants from 80 countries, including policymakers, educators, and business leaders, to discuss global challenges and the UAE's proactive strategies. Sarah Al Amiri, UAE Minister of State for Public Education, emphasized the need for a revolutionary approach to education systems, focusing on cultivating skills and values essential for global citizenship and economic roles. "We are developing the tools necessary to adapt to a changing world, providing the knowledge and skills required to meet challenges and foster inclusivity in our education approach. Technology is just one of many tools-rather than the solution-to drive education forward," Al Amiri stated. Maryam Al Hammadi, Minister of State and Secretary-General of the UAE Cabinet, highlighted the UAE's efforts in regulatory reform, which has been crucial for the nation's progress. 'In three years, we have updated more than 75 percent of our regulations and repealed over 50 outdated laws. We reduced the legal age for doing business from 21 to 18 and introduced full foreign ownership in many sectors, making the UAE a more attractive place for business,' Al Hammadi explained. Danny Quah, Dean and Professor of Economics at the National University of Singapore, and Euvin Naidoo, Distinguished Professor at Thunderbird School of Global Management, also contributed to the discussion. They praised the UAE's strategic plans, including its ambitious goals for the energy transition, with a significant portion of its electricity project ed to be sourced from solar by 2050. The event, hosted in cooperation with the World Economic Forum, aimed to shape the agenda for the 2025 WEF Annual Meeting in Davos, highlighting the UAE's model as an exemplar in governance agility and innovation-driven growth.
