MOSCOW: The United Arab Emirates, represented by the Ministry of Health and Prevention, actively participated in the BRICS health ministers meeting in Moscow, discussing key strategies to enhance sustainable development and promote health globally by 2030.
According to Emirates News Agency, the UAE delegation was led by Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention. The delegation included significant figures such as Dr. Yousef Mohammed Al Serkal, Director-General of Emirates Health Services; Nasser Al Badour, Assistant Under-Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Prevention; and Dr. Abdullah Al Naqbi, Executive Director of Supporting Health Services at EHS. The meetings provided a platform to address global health challenges and foster deeper international cooperation in healthcare.
During the conference, discussions focused on accelerating sustainable development, enhancing universal health coverage, and strengthening global health infrastructure. These goals align with
the UAE’s vision of building cooperative partnerships and setting a shared course toward a healthier future for all. Minister Al Owais emphasized the importance of the BRICS meetings as a venue for exchanging knowledge and expertise, strengthening development efforts, and building resilient health systems.
“The UAE is committed to deepening multilateral cooperation and fostering constructive dialogue,” Al Owais remarked. He highlighted the UAE’s role as a strategic partner in the international health system, noting its leadership in addressing urgent global health challenges. The discussions also covered the growing crisis of antimicrobial resistance, a significant threat to global health, and applauded the collaborative efforts of BRICS countries in this area.
Key cooperation areas discussed included developing joint programs in nuclear medicine, implementing integrated early warning systems for infectious diseases, and standardizing medical product regulations to ensure broad accessibility. The upcoming l
aunch of the BRICS Health Journal was also highlighted, which aims to be a leading platform for researchers and showcase the BRICS countries’ health projects.
Additionally, the health ministers explored collaboration in tuberculosis and vaccine research, aiming for equitable access for all. Plans for the BRICS Medical Association and Public Health Research Network were outlined to enhance the role of local medical associations and address health challenges through joint research and development.
As the meetings concluded, the UAE delegation reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing collaboration and exploring new cooperation avenues among the BRICS nations. This initiative is intended to foster a more equitable, adaptable, and innovative global health system, contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, enhance global dialogue, and ultimately improve health and quality of life worldwide.
