UK Inflation Hits Three-Year Low Amid Decreasing Airfares and Petrol Prices

LONDON: UK inflation rate dropped to 1.7 percent in September, marking the lowest rate in three and a half years, driven primarily by reduced airfares and petrol prices. According to Kuwait News Agency, the latest figures released by the Office for National Statistics indicate a notable decrease in transportation costs, which fell by 2.4 percent. This decline played a significant role in pulling down the overall inflation figures. Conversely, there was a slight increase in the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which saw a rise of 0.5 percent. The data highlights a mixed impact on households, where savings on travel and fuel contrast with higher costs for groceries. The Bank of England maintains that a two percent inflation rate is optimal, promoting steady economic growth without adversely affecting the incomes of British families.
