UN Official Warns of Dire Humanitarian Crisis in Northern Gaza

Gaza city: A United Nations official has issued a stark warning concerning the plight of the population in northern Gaza, citing a severe humanitarian crisis due to ongoing military operations and a blockade by Israeli forces. Joyce Msuya, the Acting Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and UN Emergency Relief Coordinator, has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities to prevent further loss of life. According to Kuwait News Agency, Msuya emphasized the critical situation in a statement, highlighting the direct impact of the conflict on civilian infrastructure and the fundamental rights of the residents. She reported that hospitals have been targeted, medical personnel are being detained, and rescue operations for those trapped under debris are being obstructed. These actions, she stated, demonstrate a "blatant disregard for basic humanity" by the Israeli forces. Msuya further described the dire conditions faced by the local populace, noting that shelters have been destroyed, families torn apart, and numerous men and boys forcibly removed. The continued military operations have resulted in significant casualties, with hundreds of Palestinians killed since the offensive in northern Gaza was intensified earlier this month. The renewed violence has also displaced tens of thousands of residents, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. In a specific incident reported by the Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA), Israeli forces launched an attack on a residential complex in Beit Lahia, resulting in the deaths of at least 35 individuals, including women and children, and leaving many others wounded. Msuya's warning underscores the urgent need for action, as she insists that the international community must respond to halt the suffering and uphold the laws of war.
