UN Rights Chief Warns of Unprecedented Global Risks from Middle East Conflict

Beirut: The UN's rights chief, Volker Turk, has issued a stark warning about the ongoing Middle East conflict, highlighting the "extremely dangerous and unpredictable" situation that has emerged. The conflict, nearing the one-month mark, poses significant risks of ensnaring countries beyond the region, potentially affecting global stability.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Turk emphasized the severity of the situation, noting that states in the Middle East are on the brink of an "unmitigated catastrophe" due to the escalating violence. The conflict has already resulted in over 2,000 fatalities across the region and has significantly disrupted global energy markets.

Turk appealed for an immediate cessation of hostilities, urging all countries, especially those with influence, to take decisive action to end the conflict. He stressed that ending the conflict is the only sure way to prevent further escalation and mitigate its global impact.
