Kafer kela: UNIFIL has reiterated its call to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to respect the Blue Line, ensure the safety of peacekeepers, and cease any attacks on or near them. This appeal follows an incident involving two drones observed hovering aggressively near a routine UNIFIL patrol in Kafer Kela.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the peacekeepers reported that one of the drones was carrying an unidentified object, posing an immediate threat to their safety. In response, the peacekeepers took defensive action, following established protocols. The situation escalated when one of the drones dropped a stun grenade, which exploded approximately fifty meters from the patrol before retreating toward Israeli territory. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the patrol proceeded with its operations.
UNIFIL had previously informed both the Israeli and Lebanese armies about the drone activity in the sensitive area near the Blue Line. The peacekeepers assessed that the drone was likely operated by the IDF and had crossed the Blue Line in violation of Security Council resolution 1701. The use of armed drones in such a manner has been deemed unacceptable by UNIFIL, which stressed the importance of adhering to international law and maintaining stability along the Blue Line.
