Beirut: UNIFIL has reiterated its call for Lebanon and Israel to adhere to Security Council Resolution 1701 and pursue a full cessation of hostilities, citing this as the only viable path toward lasting stability. This comes amid a concerning escalation in hostilities between the two nations.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, UNIFIL issued a statement highlighting the recent violent escalation, which marks a further worrying deterioration in the situation. The statement noted heavy exchanges of fire, intensified air and ground activity, and the increased presence of Israeli forces inside Lebanese territory as deeply concerning developments. Additionally, renewed "evacuation orders" affecting civilians on both sides of the Blue Line have been brought to attention.
UNIFIL emphasized that heightened rhetoric is further exacerbating an already fragile situation. The peacekeeping force remains committed to its operations in south Lebanon and along the Blue Line, continuing to report violations, liaise between the parties, and facilitate humanitarian access and the protection of civilians wherever possible.
