The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics on Thursday issued a press statement marking the World Environment Day, which is celebrated annually on June 5 and 6.
The celebration will be held this year under the slogan of “Reimagine. Recreate. Restore.”
The electricity sector represents the main source of carbon dioxide emissions resulted from petroleum products and natural gas consumption, reaching 42% of total emissions, followed by transport sector by 19% , industrial sector by 15%, household and commercial sector by 8% , and other sectors reaching 16% of total emissions in 2018 and 2019.
Meanwhile, the amount of electric power generated by renewable energy (solar and wind) has increased to 4543 GWh in 2018/2019, versus 2871 GHW in 2017/2018, recording an increase by 58.2%
The amount of carbon dioxide emissions from the consumption of petroleum products and natural gas reached 199.86 million tons in 2018/2019 compared to 206.75 million tons in 2017/2018, recording a decrease of 3.3%.
