World Health: There is no longer any safe place in Gaza and the health system has reached the breaking point

Geneva – Together – The World Health Organization announced that, ‘In light of the ongoing Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip, there is no longer any safe place for civilians to go.’

The organization’s spokesman, Tariq Yasarevic, warned during a UN press conference in Geneva that the health system in the Gaza Strip had “reached the breaking point.”

According to the organization, six of the seven major hospitals in the Strip are no longer operating except partially.

Yasarevic said, “Beit Hanoun Hospital in northern Gaza is no longer operating due to successive air strikes near it, which caused damage to the hospital and nearby roads.”

He added that the two main hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip, the Indonesian Hospital and Al-Shifa Hospital, had exceeded their capacity, amounting to a total of 760 beds.

He pointed out that 99% of Shifa Hospital beds are occupied, while hospitals in southern Gaza have reached their maximum capacity.

He pointed out that hospitals only get electricity for a few ho
urs a day to save fuel, which is about to run out.

He said that “the result will be devastating,” especially for the wounded who need surgeries, patients in intensive care, and newborns who need incubators. There is also a shortage of blood banks in the Strip.
