PALESTINE MARKS “HOLY SABBATH OF LIGHT” IN THE ABSENCE OF FESTIVE APPEARANCES

Christian churches that follow the Eastern calendar in Palestine commemorated ‘Sabbath of Light,’ which precedes Resurrection Sunday (the glorious Easter), according to Wafa News Agency.

The Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem and the rest of Palestine and Jordan, Theophilus III, presided over a special prayer in the Church of the Resurrection in occupied Jerusalem, in the presence of a group of bishops and priests, and a number of worshipers who were able to reach the church despite the restrictions and military barriers imposed by the Israeli occupation in the vicinity of the Old City.

The ceremonial appearances and scout marches that take place annually were absent, in light of the continuing Israeli aggression since last October.

After the light flowed from the ‘Holy Sepulchre’ in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, it was transferred to the governorates of Ramallah, Al-Bireh, Bethlehem, Jericho, Al-Aghwar, Nablus, and Jenin. The ‘Holy Light’ was also transferred to the cities and towns within the 48 t
erritories.

In Gaza, where the aggression and siege prevented the “Holy Light” from reaching occupied Jerusalem, prayers were held in the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Porphyrius, with the participation of a number of displaced people present in the church.

PALESTINIAN HEALTH MINISTRY WARNS OF UNPRECEDENTED CATASTROPHE IN GAZA AMID ONGOING ISRAELI AGGRESSION

The Ministry of Health has declared an unprecedented global health catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, as the Israeli occupation’s aggression persists for seven consecutive months.

In a statement released today, the ministry urged the international community, health organizations, and humanitarian agencies to intensify pressure on the Israeli authorities to halt the aggression and save the lives of millions of citizens who have fled their homes to escape the Israeli war machine.

The statement warned of an imminent bloodbath if the Israeli occupation launches a massive-scale invasion of Rafah governorate, where over 1.2 million citizens have sought refuge from airstrikes. Rafah has only three partially operational hospitals, lacking adequate public health, water, food, and healthcare prevention measures.

The ministry affirmed that Israeli forces deliberately target medical facilities, personnel, and patients daily. “Israeli war machinery has targeted 155 health institutions, leading to the closure of 32 hospital
s and 53 health centers, destruction of 130 ambulances, crippling the healthcare system that served our people.”

The statement added, “The Israeli occupation’s aggression has led to the collapse of the healthcare system in the Gaza Strip, depriving patients and wounded individuals of necessary treatment, resulting in many deaths due to the lack of equipment, medicines, medical supplies, food shortages, insufficient personnel, disease outbreaks, and preventing them from seeking treatment outside the Strip.”

SALAM AFTER MEETING QATAR’S BAR ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT: THROUGH OUR COOPERATION, WE WILL SUCCEED IN RENDERING THE NEW LEBANON A DESTINATION FOR QATARI INVESTMENTS

Caretaker Economy and Trade Minister, Amin Salam, met today in the Qatari capital – Doha, with the President of the Qatari Bar Association, Mubarak Al-Sulaiti, where they discussed twinning cooperation between the Qatari and Lebanese Bar Associations ‘to consolidate and document cooperation between lawyers, organizations, associations and similar professional federations in both countries.’

This comes in line with Minister Salam’s interest in this step, as he is an international lawyer before being a minister in the Lebanese government.

In this connection, Salam said: ‘The lawyer is the protector of justice and independence. Therefore, out of belief in the necessity of the Bar Association’s presence at any event to facilitate exchanges of a legal nature, promote the exchange of documents and information related to various aspects of law and jurisprudence, and organize workshops for lawyers, facilitate the establishment of companies in both countries, consolidate and strengthen cooperation between lawyers, o
rganizations, associations and similar professional federations, we took this step to crown the brotherly relationship between Lebanon and Qatar and put our ties and capabilities in the service of our peoples and attract the investments of our Arab and Gulf brethrens, including the Qatari brothers.’

Salam highlighted the need to prepare the ground for law and justice by strengthening confidence in the judiciary and developing ways to achieve justice and improve its performance, being the main lever for development and attracting investments that keep pace with the economic and social transformations witnessed by societies.

Affirming the Lebanese state’s determination to keep pace with advancement, particularly in relying on information technology and digital transformation, Salam said there is serious work and a promising effort in Lebanon in this direction, citing his ministry as en example in taking a step towards digital transformation and electronic governance for achieving more transparency and reducin
g corruption and wasted time.

‘This is our journey in the new Lebanon, the investment destination and an opportunity to benefit from many attractive factors and incentives in the structure of the Lebanese investment market, including: the low cost of the Lebanese labor force, the availability of young resources with graduate degrees, the relatively reasonable taxes and the continued freedom of financial transfer from and to Lebanon,” Salam asserted.

The meeting concluded with the initiation of mutual cooperation, stressing that this ‘will chart a bright and full future for the two countries by exchanging rich and solid experiences and diligences at the chambers and courts’ levels, and confirming, on the other hand, that Lebanon is a destination for Qatari investments, under the guidance of the two Bar Associations.
