UNICEF Calls for Immediate End to Violence in Gaza, Citing No Safe Havens for Children

New York: The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has issued a strong plea to halt the violence in Gaza, highlighting the dire situation for children in the region, where there is reportedly no safe place left for them. This appeal comes in response to the ongoing conflict that has seen severe casualties and destruction, particularly impacting the youngest and most vulnerable. According to Maan News Agency, UNICEF's message was conveyed through a post on the "X" platform by the organization's spokesperson. The statement followed recent attacks, including the bombing of tents housing displaced families at the courtyard of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip. The UN agency detailed the grim scenes on the ground, with images of children who have been killed or injured, and families who are fleeing the bombardments. UNICEF has called for an "immediate" cessation of what it described as "horrific violence" against children and urged the global community to intervene to stop th e atrocities. The backdrop to this urgent call is a devastating year-long conflict in Gaza, which, as reported by UNICEF, has resulted in over 140,000 casualties, including the dead and wounded, with more than 10,000 individuals still missing. The situation has led to widespread destruction across Gaza and a famine that has further claimed the lives of numerous children and elderly individuals.
