UN Commissioner Warns of Potential Crimes Against Humanity in Gaza

GAZA CITY: The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Trk, has issued a stark warning about the escalating conflict in Gaza, describing the situation as potentially amounting to crimes against humanity. Trk emphasized the urgent need for global intervention amid ongoing violence and humanitarian crises in the region. According to Maan News Agency, Trk expressed grave concerns about the persistent bombing in the northern Gaza Strip, where civilians are trapped without a safe passage to escape the violence. Those attempting to flee are reportedly exposed to gunfire, exacerbating the dire humanitarian conditions. Trk called upon world leaders to act decisively to uphold international humanitarian law and protect the residents of Gaza. Trk further stated that the actions of the Israeli army, which include bombing, imposing a siege, and creating conditions that risk famine, are placing the entire population of the Gaza Strip in jeopardy. He highlighted the severity of the situation, warning th at it could constitute atrocity crimes, including crimes against humanity. The High Commissioner urged immediate international attention and action to address and mitigate the unfolding crisis.
