Hamieh Assures Quick Restoration of Key Border Crossings, Highlights Government’s Commitment to Reconstruction.

Beirut: Caretaker Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Ali Hamieh, on Wednesday confirmed that the vital border crossings between Lebanon and Syria, specifically the Al-Arida and Al-Masnaa crossings, would be fully operational within 48 hours. During his inspection of repair works at the Al-Masnaa crossing, which had been targeted by Israeli forces, he stated that the damage at Al-Masnaa would be addressed immediately. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, "The Ministry of Public Works has been working tirelessly from the early hours to reopen all Lebanese roads, ensuring that no part of the country remains isolated," Hamieh remarked, emphasizing the strategic importance of these crossings for Lebanon. Hamieh then assured that the Al-Masnaa crossing would soon be open in both directions, facilitating the movement of traffic between Lebanon and Syria, alongside other crossings in the north. The Minister also highlighted the ongoing cooperation with Syrian authorities, revealing that he had com municated with the Syrian Minister of Transport to coordinate efforts on the restoration of the Al-Jousiyeh crossing, which is being repaired to become accessible from the Qaa region. "Our relationship with Syria is normal; it's a relationship between neighbors, and we must develop it in the interest of both countries," he added, stressing the importance of continued dialogue to resolve issues effectively. Regarding Lebanon's road network, Hamieh noted that the ministry has already restored approximately 95% of the country's roadways to ease traffic flow for citizens returning to their villages and towns. Responding to claims by Israeli forces that the crossings were targeted due to alleged Hezbollah activities, Hamieh strongly defended Lebanon's sovereign institutions. "The Lebanese crossings are under the supervision of the General Security, customs, military intelligence, and other state officials who perform their duties in full compliance with the law," Hamieh asserted. "Can we really question the legi timacy of those who represent the Lebanese state and uphold its laws?" On the topic of reconstruction, Hamieh welcomed any international assistance, announcing that the Lebanese government will hold a session next week to discuss the recovery process. The session will focus on assessing damages, clearing rubble, and launching reconstruction efforts, with the government taking full responsibility for the restoration. Concluding his statement, Hamieh, who hails from the Bekaa region, expressed solidarity with his people. "The people of Baalbek and the entire Bekaa region are resilient and steadfast. They consider this land their own, and defending it is a matter of honor. I stand with them, and no matter what we do, we will never be able to fully repay the sacrifices and lives they have given," Hamieh concluded.
