Jaber Heads to Baghdad for High-Level Energy, Telecom Talks

Baghdad: Finance Minister Yassine Jaber departed for Baghdad to hold meetings with senior Iraqi officials aimed at enhancing bilateral coordination, particularly in the areas of fuel supply for Lebanon's electricity sector, telecommunications, and the proposed oil pipeline project. Speaking from Rafic Hariri International Airport, Jaber stated that the visit has multiple objectives.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Jaber emphasized Lebanon's gratitude for Iraq's ongoing support, especially the provision of fuel during wartime, as well as more recent assistance in the form of wheat and social aid. He noted that discussions will cover a range of joint interests, including electricity, telecommunications, and the extension of fiber optic connections potentially linking Lebanon to Europe via Iraq. Talks will also address the pipeline project and the settlement of outstanding financial obligations owed by Lebanon.

Before departing, Jaber met with Education Minister Rima Karami to discuss a framework for addressing the needs of Lebanon's educational sector.
