Le Drian Meets Bou Saab: Emphasis on Reform Laws, International Support for Lebanon

Beirut: Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Elias Bou Saab, on Tuesday welcomed French Presidential Envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian at Parliament, accompanied by French Ambassador to Lebanon, Herv© Magro, and a delegation. MP Georges Adwan, Chair of the Administration and Justice Committee, also attended.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Le Drian highlighted the current parliamentary momentum as crucial, noting that Lebanon has a unique opportunity to restore internal cohesion and improve its international image. He emphasized the urgency of passing key reform laws, stating that France is committed to convening an international conference and rallying donor nations once these laws are enacted.

Bou Saab noted that Speaker Nabih Berri had called for an extraordinary legislative session to expedite reform bills. He mentioned that Parliament is still awaiting the government's draft law on the financial gap, which is essential to accompany the banking sector restructuring bill. Other laws under review include electoral reform and the Ocean Treaty.

Additionally, Bou Saab requested international pressure, particularly from France and the United States, as guarantors of the ceasefire, to ensure Israel respects its obligations.
