Amman: The Jordanian Armed Forces announced the thwarting of an attempt to smuggle narcotics across the eastern border using balloons equipped with remote-controlled devices.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the Jordanian News Agency (Petra) quoted a military official as saying, "Border Guard forces in the Eastern Military Region, in coordination with security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, detected a group of balloons within their area of responsibility, whereby they were intercepted and shot down, along with their cargo, inside Jordanian territory."
He added, "After inspecting the site, it was found that the balloons were loaded with narcotics, and the seized items were transferred to the relevant authorities."
He stressed that "the Jordanian Armed Forces will continue to utilize all their military and technological capabilities to protect the borders and prevent drug smuggling and anything that could undermine the nation's security and stability."
