Beirut: Following his meeting with US Special Envoy Thomas Barrack at the Grand Serail this afternoon, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam affirmed that "confining arms and extending state authority is something the Lebanese have agreed upon since the Taif Agreement."
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Salam highlighted that "Hezbollah is an integral part of the Lebanese state, and its representatives voted on the ministerial statement." He further addressed the issue of "drones and attacks on the South and Bekaa," which have been condemned widely. The Prime Minister emphasized efforts to mobilize Arab and international diplomatic support to halt these aggressions.
Salam disclosed that US Envoy Barrack was presented with a document from President Joseph Aoun, which included observations from both himself and the House Speaker. He elaborated that Barrack's document outlines plans to cease hostilities and limit weapons, beginning with the southern region of Lebanon.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of state sovereignty in determining the nation's stance on war and peace, which was a key point of discussion during the meeting. He dismissed the notion of a governing troika, instead highlighting ongoing communication among Lebanese leaders and the exploration of new Lebanese initiatives.
