Beirut: Minister of Culture, Dr. Ghassan Salameh, received a delegation of families of the victims and martyrs of the Beirut port explosion at his office in the Sanayeh National Library. The delegation included members of the "Silent Witness" campaign, a rapporteur from the Public Prosecutor's Office, and representatives of the victims' families, alongside a group of engineers and associations focused on heritage and cultural property protection. Architect Jad Tabet was also present.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the delegation was composed of C©cile Roukoz, Dr. Yahya Temsah, engineer Nahida Khalil, Marana Fadoulian, Shukri Haddad, Paul Najjar, Edward Bitar, and Natalie Chahine. The discussions centered on the aftermath of the port explosion tragedy, emphasizing the families' right to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable, as they await a conclusive judicial decision.
The delegation urged that the silos at the Port of Beirut be transformed into a memorial, regardless of the judicial outcomes. Minister Salameh assured that he has been actively engaging with relevant parties and cultural experts to assess the condition of the silos. He expressed optimism that a resolution could be reached before the upcoming fifth anniversary of the port explosion on the 4th of next month.
