Beirut: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and the Directorate General of Urban Planning, today launched the Guidebook for Post-War Sustainable Land Use Planning. Funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), this practical tool offers planners and decision-makers a roadmap to rebuild smarter, safer, and more sustainably, particularly in rural areas heavily affected by the war.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the guidebook emphasizes the protection of cultural heritage, ecological restoration, and equitable access to land and services, while placing local communities at the center of decision-making.
It serves as a practical reference for government institutions, municipalities, humanitarian partners, and technical professionals - helping to prevent unplanned reconstruction and short-term fixes, while aligning urgent recovery needs with long-term development goals.
