Egypt and Lebanon Forge Agreement to Revitalize Lebanese Gas Infrastructure

Cairo: Egypt and Lebanon have entered into a pivotal agreement in Cairo to repair and rehabilitate Lebanon's gas pipelines through Egypt's Technical Gas Services Company (TGS), marking a significant step in enhancing bilateral energy cooperation.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the agreement was formalized by Lebanese Energy Minister Joe Saddi and Egyptian Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi, with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly present at the signing ceremony. Madbouly emphasized that this agreement is a direct outcome of his visit to Beirut in December and underscores the commitment to expanding cooperative efforts with Lebanon, especially in the energy sector.

Saddi highlighted the initiative as a critical move towards transforming Lebanon's energy sector to rely more on gas-based production, which promises reduced production costs and environmental advantages. Meanwhile, Badawi elaborated on the scope of the project, which includes the rehabilitation of approximately 30 kilometers of gas pipelines. It also involves upgrades to reduction and measurement stations, associated power facilities, and the modernization of PLC and SCADA control systems. The project will include technical testing in preparation for resuming operations.
